India to assist the development of public audit sector of the Maldives

An agreement has been signed between the Auditor General’s Office of the Maldives and the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India to assist the development of the public audit sector of the Maldives.

The agreement was signed by Auditor General Hussain Niyazi and the CAG of India Girish Chandra Murmu during a ceremony held at the Auditor General’s Office on October 24. The agreement will enable CAG of India to conduct joint programmes with the Auditor General’s Office of the Maldives to provide professional training for auditors.

Speaking at the ceremony, Auditor General Niyazi noted CAG of India is an experienced institution in the public audit sector, adding the agreement will be of great benefit to Maldivian auditors. Meanwhile, CAG Girish Chandra Murmu said the agreement will help to further enhance the ties between India and the Maldives, and bring progress to audit and public finance through capacity building.

The Auditor General’s Office of the Maldives and CAG of India have been working together since 2008. Both institutions are members of the Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) and the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (IntOSAI).
