Gov't to build 1,400 housing units in Kulhudhuffushi

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced the government is set to develop 1,400 housing units in Kulhudhuffushi City. He made the statement while officiating the ceremony held at Kulhudhuffushi City to mark the National Youth Day.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih said 400 housing units will be developed in Kulhudhuffushi this year as part of the government's nationwide mega housing project. He also said the government has finished negotiations with a foreign party to develop an additional 1,000 housing units in the city. The purpose of the project is to alleviate the worsening housing situation in the city, he said.

Kulhudhuffushi was designated as a city in 2020 after its population grew to 10,000 residents. Currently, Kulhudhuffushi has a population of over 12,000 and suffers from a shortage of housing for its residents.

The government has stated it is working to alleviate housing problems in Kulhudhuffushi, the Greater Male' Region, and various other parts of the country. As such, President Solih announced the government's plan to initiate a nationwide mega housing project worth USD 78 million.
