Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has concluded land reclamation and shore protection of Guraidhoo, Kaafu Atoll.
Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure awarded the land reclamation and shore protection project to MTCC on August 27, 2019. The project was concluded on September 27 and was officially handed over to the island council on October 21, 2021.
MTCC reclaimed 15 hectares of land as part of the project. The project also included the construction of a 1200m revetment. In line with the harbor project, MTCC also developed a picnic island in the lagoon of the island. It was the first time MTCC developed a picnic island in close proximity to an inhabited island.
Although the registered population of Guraidhoo is 2,000, about 3,000 people reside on the island for jobs and other necessities.
