Mathiveri land reclamation to be included in next year's budget

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed the Mathiveri land reclamation project will be included in next year's state budget. He made the statement while speaking with residents in Mathiveri, Alifu Alifu Atoll.

Addressing the gathering, President Solih said Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is increasing its capacity to begin the land reclamation project to solve the housing issues faced in Mathiveri. He highlighted that increasing the capacity of MTCC will fast-track its work to complete all the government reclamation projects within the next two years.

Furthermore, President Solih said the government will include a project to expand the Mathiveri health centre in next year's state budget. He also said the government is preparing to begin the fieldwork for the island's water supply and sewerage projects and complete it by mid-2022. The project to add new classrooms and a multi-purpose hall for Mathiveri School will be completed next year as well, he added.

At the gathering, residents expressed concern regarding establishing a new mosque on the island and the development of the local tourism industry.

Following the meeting with the residents, President Solih visited Mathiveri health centre and toured the water supply and sewerage project site.
