Construction sector to be restored within 2-3 years

President of the Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI) Mohamed Ali Janah has revealed it will take about 2 to 3 years for the construction sector to restore to the pre-pandemic situation.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, the President of MNACI said although it may take a couple of years to restore the construction sector to the pre-pandemic situation, the outlook of the sector is promising and bright. It is due to the ongoing projects and the beginning of new projects in the near future, he said.

MNACI conducted a survey when the situation of COVID-19 worsened to determine the effects of the pandemic on the sector. MNACI revealed another survey is being done to determine the current situation as the pandemic situation eases. MNACI added many challenges are faced due to the new normal adaptations caused by COVID-19. As such, MNACI stated supplying equipment and essentials are the biggest challenge faced by the companies.

The survey conducted by MNACI showed that the construction sector has faced a loss of USD 38.8 million due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
