Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has revealed charges have been pressed against two more suspects over the May 6 terrorist attack against Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
PGO filed the charges against Abdulla Ali Manik and Mohamed Thasleem at the Criminal Court on October 19. Manik and Thasleem have been charged with supporting terrorist organisations, under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
PGO has now pressed charges against nine suspects over the terrorist attack. The suspects include Fahumee Ali, who is charged with participating in terrorist activity, and Mohamed Nazim, who is charged with planning a terrorist attack.
Furthermore, Is'haaq has been charged with transporting explosives, planning a terrorist attack and participating in terrorist activity. PGO has also pressed charges against Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed, who is believed to have triggered the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Speaker Nasheed's residence. Charges were also pressed against Ali Haisham, Thahumeen Ahmed and Mujaaz Ahmed.
Speaker Nasheed was severely injured after an IED attached to a motorcycle was triggered while he was getting in his car on the night of May 6. The attack left Nasheed with serious injuries, requiring multiple life-saving surgeries and additional medical treatment in Germany.
