The Maldives has achieved over 90% of the projected arrivals for the year.
923,146 tourist arrivals have been recorded as of October 13, according to statistics of the Ministry of Tourism. The country now requires 76,854 more arrivals to achieve its target of one million arrivals projected for the year.
The statistics show that 4,022 tourists per day arrived in the country on average. The target of one million tourist arrivals will be achieved within the next 20 days and 1.2 million tourist arrivals will be recorded for the year if the daily average figures remain the same for the remaining part of the year, stated tourism ministry.
As shown in the statistics, 92,103 tourist arrivals were recorded in January while 96,882 arrivals were recorded in February and 109,585 arrivals were recorded in March. Additionally, a total of 91,200 tourists visited the Maldives in April, 64,613 tourists visited in May, 56,166 visited in June, 101,818 in July, 143,599 in August, and 114,896 arrivals were recorded in September. Meanwhile, 52,284 tourists arrived in the Maldives in the first 13 days of October.
Maldives was one of the first countries to reopen its borders to tourists, where 93% of resort employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
India is currently the top source market of tourists to the Maldives, accounting for 23% of all arrivals this year. Russia is second in the market with 19.4% of all arrivals this year.
The tourism ministry revealed, on average, tourists spend eight days in the Maldives.
