USD 2.6 million utilised from Green Fund in August

Ministry of Finance reveals around USD 2.6 million has been spent from the Green Fund in August.

The latest Green Fund Report published by the Ministry of Finance shows 25 projects were financed using the Green Fund in August. They include projects to establish coastal protection, water supply, waste management, and sewerage systems in various parts of the country.

In August, around USD 297,000 from the Green Fund was spent on the environmental improvement and waste management project in the Greater Male' Region. The report also shows USD 285,000 was spent on the establishment of a water and sewerage system Kurinbi, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

Furthermore, the Green Fund Report shows USD 4.9 million was added to the fund in August through green tax collection. Around USD 1.9 million was received from tax collected from resorts and guesthouses in Kaafu Atoll and USD 691,000 was received from tax collected in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.

The Green Fund was introduced to tackle environmental issues in the Maldives as per the Tourism Act of the Maldives. The Maldives Green Fund contains USD 69 million as of August.
