Youth Ministry to establish online portal for NGOs

Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment has revealed it is working to open an online portal for Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

Speaking to PSM News, Registrar of NGOs Ahmed Irash said NGOs in the Maldives have been long awaiting the portal in order to easily publicise information regarding their work and services. Irash said the work to establish the portal has been split into different stages and the first stage involves formulating a database of information on the NGOs operating in the Maldives.

He said the work also involves formulating the yearly report and submitting online registrations of NGOs and other administrative work. The registrar said the ministry expects the documents to be scanned and verified this month and the first stage of the platform to come online by the end of the year. He also said the second and third stages involve changing the logos and committees of the NGOs and integrating the yearly report. The online portal will be easily accessible to people with disabilities, he added.

The youth ministry has stated the online portal will strengthen the work of NGOs, assist them in formulating yearly reports, and increase the cooperation and relations with citizens and other organisations.
