British High Commission to the Maldives has announced the United Kingdom (UK) will be easing restrictions for fully vaccinated Maldivians.
The high commission stated those vaccinated under the Maldives vaccination programme who have completed two doses of Pfizer, AstraZeneca, or Covishield vaccines will be classified as fully vaccinated for entry to England from October 11 onwards. British High Commissioner to Maldives Caron Rohsler revealed Maldivians who have completed both doses of the approved vaccines will be able to enter the UK without having to undergo quarantine.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid thanked the UK for its ease of restrictions and said the decision was made as a result of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's policies on overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.
The UK government has been removing travel restrictions for countries based on the assessment of COVID-19 risks. As such, Maldives was removed from the UK travel red list in September.
The UK had placed the Maldives on its red list on May 12 over the spike in COVID-19 cases in the country. However, since then the Maldives has seen a significant decrease in COVID-19 cases and a high vaccination rate compared to most countries.
