President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has welcomed the Net Zero 2050 initiative announced by the UAE.
In a tweet, President Solih thanked the Crown Prince of UAE Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Government of UAE for launching the Net Zero 2050 initiative. He added the Maldives looks forward to working closely with UAE and other partners on fostering greater sustainability initiatives and addressing the global climate emergency.
The Net Zero 2050 initiative by the UAE aims to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2050. The initiative includes investing USD 163 billion in clean and renewable energy sources in the next three decades.
Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan stated the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategic Initiative is consistent with the longstanding vision of the UAE and its people to make a significant contribution to global sustainability efforts while supporting economic and human development both at home and around the world.
