PGA requests the President to address important UN sessions on vaccines and climate change

President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA) Abdulla Shahid has requested President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to address important UN sessions related to COVID-19 vaccines and climate change.

Speaking at the luncheon hosted by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed in honour of the PGA, Shahid said the Maldivian flag is currently waving high up in the international community, thanks to President Solih’s vision. He thanked the president for his excellent foreign policy which helped the Maldives to win the UNGA presidency and climb new heights in the international community.

Speaking further, PGA Shahid said he has initiated several important events and sessions to be held during his one-year tenure as the PGA. In this regard, Shahid noted a special session will be held in January on COVID-19 vaccines, to help reach the target of vaccinating the entire world by the end of 2022. He added two more sessions will be held to make key decisions on climate change and environmental issues. He requested President Solih to address these sessions and to let the world hear the voice of the Maldives on these important global issues.

Last month, President Solih delivered his address at the UN General Assembly held in New York. He delivered his address on the 56th anniversary of the Maldives joining the UN, which fell on September 21.
