President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA) Abdulla Shahid has stated he will continue to uphold Maldivian values during his tenure.
Speaking at a joint press conference at the President's Office, Shahid thanked President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for inviting him to the Maldives in his capacity as the PGA. As such, Shahid said he will preside over the 76th session and uphold standards and values in accordance with the wishes of President Solih. He also praised President Solih for the success achieved by the Maldives in the international arena, adding that it is an achievement attained by the success of the firm foreign policy set by the president.
Furthermore, Shahid, who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, said his Presidency of Hope and Five Rays of Hope were inspired by the Maldives and he remains dedicated to progressing the UN and promoting the priorities of the Maldives on the global stage. The PGA said he expects his work during the 76th session to bring about results that are in line with the policies set by President Solih.
