Korean Ambassador reaffirms commitment to advance Korea-Maldives ties

The Ambassador of South Korea to the Maldives, Woonjin Jeong, has reaffirmed his commitment to further advance the bilateral ties between South Korea and the Maldives. He made the remarks in a special message on the occasion of the National Foundation Day of South Korea.

In his message, Ambassador Jeong said he was very pleased to celebrate the National Foundation Day together with the Maldivian people. The ambassador said it was heartening to witness the love and support by Maldivians and Koreans on the occasion of Korea’s National Foundation Day, and expressed his appreciation for the celebrations and encouragement.

The ambassador further emphasised that this year marks the 54th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and the Maldives. The ambassador noted Korea and Maldives have come a long way together to form a cordial bilateral partnership. As such, he noted the two countries have developed over the years to be important key partners in the fields of economy, trade and investment and have been continuing to establish solid cooperation and trust in various fields.

In his message, Ambassador Jeong praised the progress achieved by the Maldivian tourism industry in recent years. In this regard, the ambassador noted the Maldives has emerged as one of the tourism industry’s biggest success stories amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as it greatly contributes to the economic advancement of the Maldives. Noting the Maldives is one of the top tourist destinations among Koreans, the ambassador expressed hope to see many people to people exchanges in the future which would contribute to betterment of both economies.

The Korean ambassador further stated he envisions endless opportunities to build Korea-Maldives relations on many spheres spanning across economic, cultural, Korean language promotion and public health cooperation. He expressed belief that the Maldives is on the path to achieve greater success and economic prosperity in the near future.

Concluding his message, Ambassador Jeong reaffirmed his commitment to continued cooperation in advancing interests of mutual concerns of the two countries.
