Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced it has opened appointments for COVID-19 booster shots.
HPA stated the Pfizer vaccine will be administered as a third booster shot for individuals over 60 years old who have reached six months after the second dose of their COVID-19 vaccine. HPA will also be providing booster shots to health workers and frontline workers who have completed their COVID-19 vaccine doses.
The agency stated it will also prioritise high-risk individuals such as those who received organ transplants, patients prescribed with long-term steroid use, dialysis patients, cancer patients, and bed-ridden patients. Individuals who fit the category can book their appointment online to receive their booster shot at ADK Hospital between 0900hrs and 1400hrs or Hulhumale' Hospital between 1300hrs and 1500hrs.
Currently, the government is administering AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines. The government began administering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to students aged 12-17 on August 15, following the beginning of the new academic year.
Statistics from the HPA show 392,000 individuals have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in the Maldives, and 339,000 individuals received the second dose.
