Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has revealed it has successfully held its first national convention.
MRM held its convention online and appointed members to party positions. Candidates running for 12 of the positions won unopposed after the minimum of candidates vying for the seats. The candidates include MRM founder Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who won the position of party leader, and Faris Maumoon, who won the position of party president.
Members were also appointed to several other prominent positions, including Aminath Nadira and Managing Director of Maldive Gas Shazail Shiyam as vice presidents of the party.
MRM has also appointed 15 male members and 15 female members for the youth council, the president and vice president of the women's council, in addition to 20 members of the women's council. Party members were also appointed to seats in the elections committee, the disciplinary committee, and the appeals committee.
The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) permitted MRM to hold the party convention in 2019. However, the party was previously unable to hold the convention due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
