The main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has revealed over 47,000 people voted in the party’s national congress elections held last week.
MDP revealed 47,100 people voted in the elections, representing 50.31% of eligible voters. MDP revealed 93,612 people were eligible to vote in the elections.
The national congress elections of MDP saw 455 individuals elected to the party’s national congress across different provinces, cities and constituencies. Several senior officials of the government and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) were elected to MDP’s national congress. This includes 165 candidates who won their seats unopposed.
MDP stated the election was the largest and the most competitive internal elections held by a political party in the Maldives. The party stated it will announce the final results of the election within the timeframe given in the party’s electoral guidelines.
