ACC submits case of WAMCO ex-MD for prosecution

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has revealed it has submitted the case of former Managing Director of Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) Mohamed Shifau to the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO).

ACC stated it submitted the case for prosecution after completing the investigation on the allegations against Shifau in relation to the misuse of his position. The former WAMCO managing director allegedly contracted a local company to develop software for WAMCO for USD 65,000 without a bidding process. Shifau allegedly contracted Noni Solutions Private Limited to develop WAMCO's customer relations management system as an emergency request.

ACC stated Shifau had personally overseen the management of the project and had a close relationship with the owner of Noni Solutions. The commission also stated details of the project were not sent to the procurement department as is legally required for emergency requests, and that the request was not disclosed to the logistic and management department or WAMCO's board. ACC added that Shifau had violated the WAMCO's procurement policy for acquiring services for the company by signing the agreement with Noni Solutions to develop the software in 2017.

Furthermore, the commission stated Shifau had repeatedly transferred money to the account of the owner of Noni Solutions during this period.
