Maldives Police Service (MPS) has appointed regional commanders for five regions across the atolls, as part of efforts to decentralise police services in the country.
During a ceremony held on September 28, Chief Superintendents Mohamed Shiham, Moosa Ali, Abdulla Satheeh, Hussain Rasheed and Ahmed Shameem were appointed as regional commanders to the five police regions established besides the Greater Male’ Region. The regional commanders were handed their letter of appointment by Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed.
Chief Superintendent Mohamed Shiham was appointed as the Regional Commander of Upper North Police, while Chief Superintendent Moosa Ali was appointed as the Regional Commander of North Police. Chief Superintendents Abdulla Satheeh, Hussain Rasheed and Ahmed Shameem were appointed as the Regional Commanders of North Central, South Central and South Police respectively.
Under the new Police Service Act, six police regions have been established across the Maldives, including the Capital Police Region which includes the Greater Male’ area. The police regions replaced the former police divisions established across the country.
