Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Local Government Authority (LGA) Fathimath Afshan Latheef has highlighted the importance of human development for true progress of the nation.
Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar held to formulate the development plans of Baa Atoll, CEO Afshan noted infrastructure development alone is not sufficient for the development of an island or region. Noting progress would only be sustainable when human development is ensured, Afshan called on local councils to prioritise human development when formulating development plans. As such, she urged councils to ensure education, training and employment opportunities for residents.
Speaking at the ceremony, President of Baa Atoll Council Ahmed Afrah said the main focus of the atoll council is to complete basic services and increase the income of the atoll. He noted special efforts will be undertaken to strengthen basic services such as education and healthcare.
The seminar held to formulate the development plans of Baa Atoll is held in association with the relevant government agencies and local authorities. The seminar is conducted for a period of 3 days.
