Avid College terminates agreement to operate Addu flying school

Avid College has terminated its agreement with the Asian Academy of Aeronautics (AAA) to operate the Addu flying school.

Avid College stated it terminated the agreement after not receiving the necessary assistance from some institutions. The college also noted other issues such as the end of the lease agreement between AAA and Gan International Airport. Both parties have agreed to terminate the sales and purchase agreement, said the college.

However, Chairman Abdulla Musthaq Rashad said Avid College is working to open its own flying school.

Avid College bought stakes of the Addu flying school from AAA in June and renamed the school to Avid School of Aviation. Avid College had bought the stakes of the Addu flying school after the majority of students raised concerns about the operations of the school.

The concerns included the school's failure to complete its programmes for students as scheduled, overcharging fees, and challenges in logging their flight time due to the lack of teachers and planes for the over 170 students studying at the school.

The complaints led to a parliament inquiry which found that AAA does not have sufficient resources and facilities to conduct its programmes.
