Fuwad Thowfeek re-elected as President of ECM

Fuwad Thowfeek has been elected as the President of the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) for a second tenure.

The position of ECM president was vacated in June following the resignation of Ahmed Shareef from the commission. Fuwad Thowfeek was elected as the new president of ECM following a unanimous vote among the sitting members of the commission.

Fuwad had previously served as the president of ECM between 2009 and 2014, notably presiding over the commission during the controversial presidential elections of 2013. He was appointed as a member of ECM again in November 2019.
