Three more people charged over May 6 attack

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has pressed charges against another three people over the May 6 terrorist attack against Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

The PGO stated new charges have been pressed against Fahumee Ali, Mohamed Nazim and Ishaaq over their involvement in planning and implementing the May 6 attack. As such, the PGO revealed Fahumee Ali is charged with participating in a terrorist activity, while Mohamed Nazim is charged with planning a terrorist attack. The PGO added Ishaaq is charged with transporting explosives, planning a terrorist attack and participating in a terrorist activity.

Last month, the PGO had pressed charges against four people over the May 6 attack, including Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed who is believed to have triggered the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Speaker Nasheed’s residence. Charges were also pressed against Ali Haisham, Thahumeen Ahmed and Mujaaz Ahmed.

Speaker Nasheed was getting into his car on the night of May 6, when an IED attached to a motorcycle was triggered. The attack left Nasheed with severe injuries, requiring multiple life-saving surgeries. He is currently in the UK seeking further treatment for his injuries.
