Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has announced it has begun the implementation of its Prisoner Account Management Systems (PAMS).
Previously, families of prisoners and convicts were only allowed to transfer money through BandeyriPay, which is the portal for making online payments to government agencies. However, PAMS will allow families to transfer the allowed monthly payment as well as make it easier for convicts to manage the money they receive from work.
PAMS is a module of the Associated Offender Management System (ATOMS) software, which is used by MCS to manage its prisoner records. ATOMS connects all Maldivian prisons and the MCS head office to a collective database, which makes it easier for prisons officials to update and manage documents.
MCS stated its new account management system will also allow prisoners and convicts to manage business transactions. MCS stated the management system also keeps records of the work of employees and increases accountability.
PAMS and ATOMS were developed by the officers and technicians in the IT section of MCS.
