Alifushi Island Council has revealed residents are appreciative of the development projects underway on the island. The council made the remarks at the meeting held by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih with the members of the Alifushi Island Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC).
During the meeting, the councillors reflected upon the massive developmental strides taken by the administration towards the progress of the island, stating that government initiated developmental projects are swiftly underway and that the people are appreciative of the efforts. The councillors also shared details of the collective concerns faced by the island community and the challenges faced by the council in fulfilling their duties. As such, the concerns include difficulties faced in home construction and delays in upgrading Alifushi Hospital. They also requested to establish a community centre on the island.
At the meeting, the president disclosed the latest information regarding ongoing developmental projects concerning the island revealing the decision to establish a mid-range 30-bed hospital on the island. He expressed willingness to work with the relevant government agencies to find solutions for the problems discussed during the meeting.
Following the meeting, the president visited Alifushi Island Police Station and met with senior officials at the station. During the visit, the president inquired about their work difficulties and challenges faced by officers in safeguarding the public and executing their duties. The officials shared their ongoing efforts as well as future plans, detailing the difficulties they experience in offering their services.
Speaking at the meeting, the president stated the Maldives Police Service (MPS) has regained the public's trust as a result of the administration's effort to reform and improve the quality of the police force.
Furthermore, the president discussed the government's plans to provide decentralised policing and the benefits the police service would receive as a result. He also offered suggestions for resolving the issues in response to the concerns of the senior officials.
Meanwhile, First Lady Fazna Ahmed visited the school of Alifushi and met the students and members of the faculty. She met students studying for GCSE O'level and foundation studies separately, speaking with them about their studies and advising them on stress management as they prepare for their examinations. She also spoke about the role of educators in curbing negative social impacts and raising awareness among students.
The representatives extended their gratitude to the first lady for the government's high priority towards improving the education sector.
