Rasgetheemu Island Council has commended the administration's accomplishments on development projects being conducted on the island. The councillors of Rasgetheemu, Raa Atoll, made the statement in their meeting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
At the meeting, the councillors expressed their gratitude to the administration for the success of numerous development initiatives that it had launched and carried out on the island. The councillors also detailed concerns about the alterations the community wishes to see in the harbour development project, as well as infrastructural shortages at the local school and Rasgetheemu Health Centre.
Furthermore, the members of the Rasgetheemu Women's Development Committee (WDC) expressed gratitude for the government's efforts in empowering women by facilitating more opportunities for women and granting legal empowerment.
Speaking at the meeting, President Solih asked councillors to make every effort to carry out their tasks and obligations under the decentralisation act and appealed for full assistance for the administration's development projects carried out on the island. The president further emphasised the importance of overseeing and carrying out community services and other initiatives using the powers granted to them by the decentralisation act.
During the trip, President Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed had also toured some of the sites of historical significance in Rasgetheemu, including the site of an ancient mosque and the site of an old well.
Furthermore, First Lady Fazna paid a visit to the Rasgetheemu School and met the faculty as part of the trip. During the discussions, the faculty members shared several of the most pertinent issues they faced, including challenges to single-session schooling and requested advice on solving several problems.
The first lady encouraged teachers to prioritise comprehensive education, foster the skills and instil good character in the students to ensure they strive to become successful and productive members of society.
