Monica Grayley appointed as Shahid's spokesperson

President-elect of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Abdulla Shahid has appointed Monica Grayley as his spokesperson.

Monica is currently the Chief Editor for UN News Portuguese and she had served as spokesperson for the President of the 73rd session of the UNGA Maria Fernanda Espinosa. She also served as the Director of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Mexico and Chief of the Partnerships Unit. Her team was the first to launch a social media account at UN News, in the Department of Public Information, in 2009.

Previously, she worked for the BBC World Service, in London, as a multimedia journalist, a desk editor, an internal communications officer, and led change-management projects in marketing and journalism. Monica has a PhD degree in Political Sciences from Universidade Aberta, Portugal.

Shahid, who is also the Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, will officially preside as the chair of the 76th session of UNGA on September 14.
