Awards to be given to best police stations in the atolls

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has decided to issue special awards to the best police stations in the atolls. The decision was revealed by Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, during the ceremony held to lay the foundation for the new police station in Manadhoo, Noonu Atoll.

Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner Hameed noted the new Police Service Act attaches high importance to strengthening the relationship between the police and the public. As such, the commissioner said the awards will be given to police stations that provide its services in accordance to the community policing philosophy, by working together with the public. He added efforts are also underway to formulate a structure for collaborative efforts between local councils, police stations and other relevant institutions, along with the public.

Speaking further, Commissioner Hameed said the establishment of a police station is Manadhoo is an important project for the future of the atoll, noting Noonu Atoll has an international airport and has a growing local tourism industry. He said MPS is working towards broadening its services across the country under the new Police Service Act, and ensure its services are suitable for the developing democratic environment of the country.
