Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has stated strengthening police service in the Maldives remains key priority of the current administration.
Speaking at the ceremony held to lay the foundation for the new police station in Manadhoo, Noonu Atoll, Home Minister Imran said the government attaches high importance to strengthening the services provided by Maldives Police Service (MPS), especially in the atolls. As such, the home minister noted preparations are currently ongoing to establish police stations in more than 50 islands. He said the establishment of the new police stations will broaden the coverage of police service in the Maldives, and ensure the safety and well-being of local communities.
Speaking further, the home minister noted this is also the 17th anniversary of the transfer of MPS to a civil institution, having earlier been part of the military service. He said the government aims to make MPS a loved and trusted institution, by ensuring the quality of service expected by the public.
