Japan provides aid to the Maldives for scholarship continuation

The Government of Japan has provided a grant aid of approximately USD 998,000 to the Maldives for the continuation of scholarship opportunities to be offered by the Government of Japan for the fiscal year 2022, under the Japanese Project for Human Resource Development (JDS).

Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan and the Resident Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Mitsuyoshi Kawasaki signed the agreement at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Higher Education.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Keiko Yanai signed the Exchange of Notes relating to the grant aid on July 15. The grant will be utilised to provide fully-funded scholarships for six Maldivian students, a project which was also implemented last year by the Japanese government for further promoting human resource development in the Maldives.

Japan has always been a consistent partner and has contributed to the development of the social, environmental, and education sectors in the Maldives.
