Teams representing the leadership of the opposition coalition of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Alliance (PNC) have departed to two atolls in the south of the country.
The leadership of the opposition revealed the aim of the visits to Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and Addu City is to meet with the residents of the islands and to inquire about their needs. The visits will consist of increasing the membership and support for the opposition parties, noted opposition coalition.
Speaking to the media, Vice President of PPM Ahmed Shiyam said the government misled the residents of both atolls by not achieving any development or progress as pledged in the past campaign. He said the teams will visit Gahdhoo and Faresmaathodaa in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and all the wards of Addu City.
The leadership also stated information and suggestions will be collected from the residents during the visits to form the opposition manifesto for the upcoming presidential election.
