Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment has provided financial grants to 15 non-government organisations (NGOs).
The financial grants were provided as part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's pledge to assist and empower NGOs in the country. As such, the youth ministry provided a total of 188,000 US dollars in grants to fund projects conducted by the NGOs.
The ministry opened the opportunity for NGOs to receive financial grants and awarded grants based on the points provided to them during the nomination process. In this regard, the ministry awarded financial grants to 15 out of the 60 NGOs that had submitted applications.
The NGOs were awarded grants based on the proposed projects, which include raising public awareness on environmental issues, establishing social centres in islands, projects to assist the community and projects to raise psychological wellbeing.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom said NGOs provide valuable help for the government-led projects and that the NGOs chosen for financial grants have proposed projects that are aligned with the policies of the government and will assist local councils and communities.
The youth ministry revealed plans to provide financial grants for NGOs next year as well.
