The newly formed Police Board has submitted its recommendations to the Commissioner of Police (CP) Mohamed Hameed, after assessing the capability of the officers of Maldives Police Service (MPS).
The Police Board had carried out an assessment of all high ranking commissioned officers of MPS, starting from the rank of Superintendent of Police. As part of the assessment, the Police Board analysed if the officers accused of corruption, brutality and abuse of power have the necessary education, skills and experience for their rank and position. The Police Board revealed the recommendations of the board following the assessment have been shared with CP Mohamed Hameed.
The Police Board was established last April, as per the newly enacted Police Service Act. The act establishes the fundamental principles, guidelines, roles and other aspects concerning police officers, aiming to streamline policing in the country by ensuring adherence to the constitution. The act also promotes professional standards within the police force and paves the way for the establishment of community-based policing services under a decentralised system of governance.
