Government requests councils to submit details for 2022 state budget

Ministry of Finance has requested councils to submit the information required to draft the state budget for 2022. The finance ministry requested the councils to submit the information before August 31.

According to the Public Finance Act, the finance ministry is required to draft and submit the state budget to the parliament two months before the start of that year. In a circular signed by Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, the ministry requested the councils to submit a mid-term budget proposal drafted in accordance with the allocated free aid and the policies regarding council budgets. The ministry stated it will provide the information the councils provided to the parliament, during its review of the state budget.

Furthermore, the ministry urged the councils to use the format provided by the ministry while submitting the information and to separate the amount received in block grants, conditional grants, as well as the council's income and expenditure. The councils are also required to keep the 2021 mid-term budget lower than the block grants allocated for the 2022 fiscal strategy.

Additionally, the ministry stated the council budgets will be approved in accordance with the Decentralisation Act, after the approval of the 2022 mid-term budget.
