Government launches cyber safety campaign for students

Ministry of Education has launched an internet safety campaign for students.

The ministry launched the Cyber Smart campaign in collaboration with UNICEF Maldives and Women in Tech Maldives. The campaign is aimed to educate parents, teachers, and students on using the internet safely and responsibly. The initiative is targeted at all school-going children, parents and teachers aimed to mitigate the potential harm to children when online for learning or entertainment, stated ministry.

The campaign aims to provide information on internet safety through animated videos, posters, and a chatbot to increase awareness of the dangers of providing personal information online and other topics. The chatbot for the campaign is a software designed to provide information on internet safety. Parents and teachers will also be given information on safety concerns when holding online classes and on the proper means to protect personal data on their computers or mobile devices.

The ministry stated the campaign will also increase awareness on major issues such as online harassment and grooming and that all the content will be available on the official website of the Cyber Smart campaign.
