ADK hospital has launched robotic surgery for the first time in the history of the Maldives.
ADK Hospital stated that they have successfully completed two surgeries of Total Knee Replacement (TKR) with the use of robots. The success of the surgeries was officially commemorated in a special ceremony held on 6th September.
During the ceremony Founder and Chairman of ADK Group of Companies Ahmed Nashid stated that introducing robotic surgery to the Maldives has paved the way for the country to advance medical tourism. He further stated that ADK plans on investing in a new building, machinery and improve human resources to further develop and expand the medical sector in the Maldives. He stated that one of the company's main goals is to improve Maldives' health sector with the latest advancements in the medical sector in order to reduce citizens dependecy on overseas treatments.
Nashid stated that ADK is prioritising evolving oncology services in the Maldives. He highlighted that 20 percent of the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA)’s budget is spent on sending patients abroad to receive treatment for cancer, highlighting the need for more improved and developed oncology services in the Maldives. In this regard he stated that ADK has prepared a budget, and submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare and the Cabinet's Economic Council to invest in further developing oncology services in the Maldives.
Speaking at the ceremony, former Health Minister Dr Ahmed Abdulla, stated that ADK has played an important role in the medical sector of the Maldives, showing that they are role models in the medical sector.
