Presidential Commission on the Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances (DDCom) has publicised a re-enactment video of journalist Ahmed Rilwan's alleged abduction.
In the video, the commission stated the re-enactment was based on the latest information it has obtained on the case of Rilwan, who has been missing since August 8, 2014. The video shows Rilwan travelling from Male' to Hulhumale' by ferry and being forcefully taken into a red car by a man with a knife as he was walking towards his home after midnight.
The video also shows the kidnapper dropping the knife during the struggle and the car driving away with its door open, while a motorcyclist followed behind. DDCom stated it is working to find more information on the knife and that it believes there are more people who have information on Rilwan's disappearance who have yet to come forward. The commission also noted that it has announced a USD 32,000 reward for anyone who can provide enough information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Rilwan's disappearance.
At the end of the video, Rilwan's sister Fathimath Shehenaz appealed to the public to give their full support to the work of DDCom and asked anyone with information on the case to come forward.
Ahmed Rilwan, who was working as a journalist for Minivan News, has been missing since August 8, 2014. The findings of DDCom into the case indicate he was abducted and murdered but no charges have been pressed due to the lack of sufficient credible evidence.
