Ministry of Islamic Affairs has decided to resume prayer congregations in the Greater Male’ Region with social distancing, starting from July 1.
The Islamic ministry announced prayer congregations will resume in the capital after 43 days, with the Fajr prayers on July 1. The ministry stated prayer congregations will resume with social distancing measures.
Speaking to PSM News on the resumption of prayer congregations, Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali called on all prayer-goers to do their ablution at home before going to the mosque, and to carry a prayer mat with them. He also highlighted the importance of wearing face masks and other personal safety measures. He also urged to pray at home if showing any kind of flu symptoms.
Prayer congregations had been suspended in the Male’ area since May 19 due to the latest outbreak of COVID-19. However, with the recent decrease in cases, the government has decided to ease some of the restrictions imposed across the country.
