Parliament approves Dr. Asim as the Morrocan Ambassador

Parliament of the Maldives has approved the nomination from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to appoint Dr. Asim Ahmed as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Morocco.

The report formed by the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations was approved with votes from 53 parliamentarians. Dr. Asim was approved without any further deliberations as he is the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations (UN) Office at Geneva, Switzerland. He has held numerous senior government positions including Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He previously held the position of the Minister of Education, served as the President of the Local Government Authority (LGA), and served on a number of boards, committees, and high-level councils, including the National Security Council.

He has also provided consultancies in a wide range of social and economic areas to a number of United Nations bodies and international organisations.
