Parliament of the Maldives has approved the nomination submitted by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to appoint Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan as the Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture. The report submitted by the Government Oversight Committee approving the nomination was passed with votes from 55 parliamentarians.
The committee delayed approving Dr. Hussain for the position due to his stake in a private company. However, Dr. Hussain received approval on June 11 from the committee after discussions with the Attorney General's Office and ascertaining that he does not receive any income from the private company. PSM News has received information that Dr. Hussain has sold his shares in the company. Dr. Hussain, who was previously the Minister of Environment, was appointed to the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture on May 5, following the resignation of Zaha Waheed from the position.
As part of the changes brought to the cabinet on May 5, Aminath Shauna, previously the Policy Secretary of the President's Office, was appointed as the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology.
