Parliamentary Committee on National Security Services has revealed it has obtained enough information to conclude the inquiry and draft a report on the May 6 terrorist attack against Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

Speaking at a press conference, the chairperson of the committee Mohamed Aslam said numerous members of the institutions relevant to the inquiry have been questioned over the past weeks. As such, Aslam said the committee has questioned 32 officers of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), including senior members, as well as five members of the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

The committee also questioned Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi, Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla, and Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam. In addition, the committee questioned Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) Ali Hashim and former Mayor of Male' City Sifa Mohamed as well.

Aslam said the committee will soon be meeting with the medical team that treated Speaker Nasheed after the attack as well as Abbas Faiz, the Special Envoy of the Government of the Maldives appointed to monitor the investigation, prosecution, and trial of the terrorist attack. He said it will take an additional week to complete the report, although the committee has previously scheduled to complete the inquiry on June 23.

Aslam said the committee has obtained valuable information on national security, which will be provided to the president, the parliament speaker, and the chief justice.
