Fuad expresses interest in ECM presidency

Fuad Thaufeeq has revealed he is interested in becoming the president of the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM). Fuad Thaufeeq is currently a member of the ECM and previously held the presidency of the electoral body.

Speaking to PSM News, Fuad said he is qualified to lead the ECM due to his experience in working at the commission.
uad said he had been a member of the transitional elections commission following the ratification of the constitution in 2008 and held the position of ECM presidency for over four years, from 2009 to 2014. He expressed hope that he would be appointed as ECM president, highlighting that he is the most senior member of the commission based on his experience and age and that he has the respect of other commission members.

The constitution dictates that a new president or vice-president should be appointed by the ECM members within 60 days after the position becomes vacant. Currently, there are four members in the commission, including Vice-President of ECM Ismail Habeeb, following the resignation of Ahmed Shareef as the president and the member of ECM on June 15.
