Parliamentary Committee on National Security Services has visited the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) integrated headquarters to obtain information for its inquiry on the May 6 terrorist attack against Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
The committee members that visited the MNDF headquarters includes committee chairman Mohamed Aslam, deputy chairman Hassan Latheef, and committee member Ali Niyaz.
Previously, the committee has summoned individual police and military officers for the inquiry, including Speaker Nasheed's bodyguards, who are part of the Special Protection Group (SPG) of MNDF. The committee has also questioned senior members of MNDF, including Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal, Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef, and Director-General of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) Zakariya Mansoor.
Furthermore, the committee has questioned Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, Chief Superintendent of Police Moosa Ali and other senior police officers, as well as the Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) Ali Hashim, former Mayor of Male' City Sifa Mohamed, and Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla. The committee also plans to summon Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi.
The committee has stated its aim is to find the source of any security breach relating to the attack against the parliament speaker and give its recommendations to the government to prevent such an incident in the future.
