Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has appointed Thilmeeza Hussain as the Special Envoy of the President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Thilmeeza Hussain is the Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Ambassador to the United States.
Minister Shahid also appointed India's Deputy Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations Nagaraj Naidu Kumar as his Chief of Staff. Minister Shahid made the appointments after being elected as the President of the 76th UNGA.
The Office of the President of the General Assembly consists of the chief of staff, a senior cabinet, an administrative department, a communication and media department, and a peace and security department. The office also consists of special departments for sustainable development, human rights, and reforms, as well as a legal and budget department.
President-elect of UNGA Shahid said his team will consist of diverse, educated, and experienced officials from various nations. Shahid also met with the President of the 75th UNGA Volkan Bozkir to share his experiences and discuss the tasks ahead.
