Repayment of student loans deferred until the end of this year

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced the repayment of all student loans have been deferred until the end of this year.

The president made the announcement at a press conference held on June 8, where he detailed some of the measures being taken by the government to counter the financial and economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The president revealed the repayment of loans issued by the government for higher education has been deferred until the end of this year, as the income of many have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government initially announced a six-month moratorium on the repayment of student loans in March 2020. In September 2020, the government extended the moratorium on the repayment of student loans until the end of last year.

A large number of individuals have taken student loans for higher studies. As part of the loan scheme announced this year, loans were approved for 417 students in the preliminary list. The final list is set to be announced on May 20.
