Allowances of electoral officials sent to banks for disbursement: ECM

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has stated the allowances allocated for the officials active in the Local Council Elections (LCE) and Women’s Development Committee Elections (WDCE) held last month have been sent to banks for disbursement.

Over 7,000 officials were active in the LCE and WDCE held in the Maldives on April 10. President of ECM Ahmed Shareef revealed the allowances of all electoral officials have been sent to their respective banks for disbursement, with the exception of some officials who have not completed some administrative formalities. He added such officials have been asked to provide the necessary documents to complete the disbursement of their allowances.

The elections on April 10 was the largest ever held in the Maldives, with LCE contested by 2,264 candidates and WDCE contested by 1,670 candidates. A total of 1,912 candidates were elected in the polls held an year late due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with 918 elected to the island councils, 196 elected to the atoll councils, 42 elected to the city councils, and 930 elected to the women's development committees.
