President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sought parliamentary endorsement for the changes brought to the cabinet and operations of some ministries earlier this month.
As part of the changes brought to the cabinet on May 5, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan, previously the Minister of Environment, was appointed as Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture. He was appointed to the position following the resignation of Zaha Waheed from the position.
The president also created a new ministry, called the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology after dissolving the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology. The new ministry is mandated with undertaking the functions and responsibilities of the former Ministry of Environment, and the dissolved Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology. Aminath Shauna, previously employed as the Policy Secretary of the President's Office, was appointed as the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology.
The President's Office stated the administrative reorganisation of the government comes under the efforts of President Solih to improve and strengthen public services and ensure the delivery of the administration's pledges.
