Maldives Police Service (MPS) has stated further progress has been made in the investigation of the terror attack in Male’ on May 6 targeting Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
In a press conference held on May 11, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz said following the arrest of key suspects, MPS is expanding the investigation to uncover further information regarding the attack. As such, he noted MPS is collaborating with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to investigate the technical aspects of the explosive device used in the attack. He said the further progress has been made on the investigation, although such information cannot be disclosed at such a crucial stage of the investigation.
Three people have been arrested in relation to the explosion in Neeloafaru Hingun in Male’ on May 6, which left Speaker Nasheed, members of his security team and some bystanders injured. This includes the individual that allegedly detonated the Improvised Explosive Device (IED), and the owner of the motorcycle to which the IED was attached.
