Ministry of Finance has revealed the expenditure towards COVID-19 health and social efforts has exceeded USD 214 million.
As of May 6, 2021, total spending towards COVID-19 health and social efforts stood at USD 214 million, which is a 0.2% increase from the week before. The review showed the majority of expenses were on National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
According to the finance ministry, in terms of week-on-week spending, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) registered the highest spending compared to its peers by approximately USD 116 million. The majority of their spending was on operational services related to COVID-19 efforts.
Over the review period, USD 103 million worth of disbursements were made to National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) for the implementation of the Income Support Allowance. As per the statistics, a large share of the expenses was spent on attaining medical equipment, test kits and supplies.
All government authorities are working together to overcome the impact of COVID-19 and particular efforts have been put to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives. The administration plans to work closely with the private sector to rebuild the nation and revive the economy after containing the COVID-19 pandemic.
