Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced the Maldives will suspend issuing tourist visas for travellers from other South Asian countries, starting from May 13.
HPA revealed entry of tourists from other South Asian countries have been restricted as part of the measures imposed to control the spread of COVID-19. All South Asian countries, including the Maldives, have seen a significant rise of COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.
Maldives Immigration had earlier announced restrictions from work visa holders and other travellers from South Asian countries. As such, effective from May 9, entry has been suspended for the work permit holders as well as other categories of visa holders arriving from South Asian countries.
The restrictions apply to travelers from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Additionally, this includes the travelers transited in these countries during the past 14 days.
